Not doing well with watched pots
Times I’ve switched between my work gmail account and my personal gmail account in the past 2 hours: 109547856749
Yeah. I am kind of closely watching the pot. Like a little too closely. Maybe I should try to see if I can ignore the pot for an hour and then do a quick check-up. And reward myself with something. Yeah… we’ll see. I’ll try to make it till 12:30 without checking my email.
Last night, the fact that two agents haven’t responded to my query in a week - mind you, these are agents who will also just not respond if they aren’t interested, which is worse than those quick rejections, let me tell you - was starting to drive me crazy. So, instead of enjoying the first new Gossip Girl in what feels like ages, or even the “Kyle XY” finale, I was instead checking up on agents/agencies and sending out four more queries.
The good news: I had one email awaiting me this morning from an eminent NY agency who shall remain nameless - okay, they are the biggest agency in the world in terms of sales, but I didn’t learn this by Googling them all morning at work - requesting my full manuscript. ::Arms flew up in the air, as if Dusty had just hit a home run in a tie game against the Yankees:: And then I started watching for more emails to come in. There are up to five responses that could come my way at any point, and for sure, three, so that’s a good excuse to constantly check your email, right?
Yeah…. In other news, I now have a good plan for the evening since skyping with Kai has been rescheduled. I have 150 pages of my book that need to be proofread aloud for nitpicky errors (and hopefully no second guessing) by tomorrow morning to I can email aforementioned agent my entire book. And then spend time agonizing over both email (bad news) and my cellphone (good news).
In the meantime, I will just imagine what it might be like to go to, I don’t know, an agency party… where I could meet Jon Stewart, Tori Spelling, Marilynne Robinson, Maureen McCormick, Stephen Colbert, Sacha Baron Cohen, etc.
Because they are all repped by the agency that requested my manuscript!
