Mrs. Buffy

Just playin' around with a new way of blogging. We'll see if it sticks.

GAAAHHHH Norman Gentle

So, tonight was the American Idol where they revealed the top 36, which is another way to say that American Idol tortured me tonight and now has left me waiting till next week to have any sense of which of these talented people will actually make the top 12 (16?) whatever-sized group we will slowly whittle down over several months.  I’m already flipping out (overstatement, I have had two glasses of wine now) over next week’s episode where we will turn 12 finalists into 3!  Three!  Several of my favorites/clear show favorites are in this group so it’s gonna be close.

Who are my true favorites?  I’m having a hard time with the women.  Several are strong, but I can’t seem to really connect with anyone.  I’ll admit that last season, I really liked Brooke.  At the end she got too nervy and drove me crazy, but I think she had a fantastic voice, I approved week after week of her song choices, and let’s face it, she was cute and personable, even if she never watched R-rated movies.

Anyway, my faves where we stand right now:

Okay, clearly NORMAN GENTLE is my absolute favorite.  He’s the most local (from rural Connecticut) and just hilarious.  He’s clearly kind of special and a former class cut-up, but I think he’s brilliant and I hope he makes it to the top 12/16.

ANOOP DESAI, aka Anoop Dog

JACKIE TOHN is I guess my favorite female.  She just comes across as very professional and ready for this (read: one of the older contestants on the show).  She also for some reason reminds me of my creative writing prof from college and I don’t know why.  Still, a very unique voice and someone who will not forget her lyrics!  I am not cool with anyone who forgets lyrics… DAVID SCHMARTULETA….grrrr.  TWICE!

DANNY GOKEY is clearly a show favorite but I also like him.  Very neat-sounding voice, plus I’m curious to see what he does when singing for more than 20-seconds.

Who am I NOT rooting for:

TATIANA DEL TORO.  Okay, so the girl can sing.  BUT SHE IS FUCKING INSANE.  I deal enough with the insane at my day job.  I don’t need to watch them on TV twice a week.

And anyone who can’t remember their lyrics on several occasions.  I mean you, Joanna Pacitti.  I’m also annoyed with all the excessive whining/crying/excuses.  I don’t pay $100 to see Bruce Springsteen forget lyrics and cry, which is good because he is a consummate professional who does neither of these things on stage.  If you think you are a real musician/performer, then you’ve got to leave the nerves behind or start taking a Xanax.  K?

Okay, time for Kyle XY.
