totally reinvigorated
Yes, four days without having to go to work will do that for you, but man, four days at the ALA Annual Conference will also do that to you.  With some tears shed along the way. The past four days have been, much to my surprise, incredible.  I always have high expectations for things I spend a lot of time looking forward to, but with the craziness of summer reading and the library construction...

Getting organized (and posting for the first time...
I am now realizing that it would have been much smarter to use an Excel sheet to keep track of my queries (instead of the dread Microsoft Word table).  Anyway…. Instead of sitting on my butt and reading all day yesterday (my plan for day 1 of my four day weekend), I instead ended up sitting on my butt and sending out queries.  I feel like I’ve sent out a bazillion.  Or, at least 50,...

My Summer Reading List
I was inspired by this article in the Chicago Tribune and have now created my own reading list.  In a similar manner, I first thought about some of the books I own that I’ve always wanted to read but haven’t.  Unlike whoever wrote that article, I could not look at them because they are all in boxes.  Still, I’ve got a good memory, so that still served as a foundation for the...

Grumble grumble
I’m sick of reading health statuses on Facebook.  I did not sign up for this!  Alas, I still feel that I need a place to vent on health-related issues, so, to the blog we go!  Erm, I go.  I now have my THIRD sore throat of the last month and a half.  WTF, folks.  The first one was definitely a part of a full-blown cold.  The last one lasted four days, and never resulted in any other cold...

And then there was one
I haven’t updated here in a bit, so I guess I should.  On the book front, responses are sloooowly trickling in.  I’m still awaiting responses from four agents who only have a query to a query + what they ask for on the website, and one agent who has my full.  About a week ago, I heard back from one place that had asked for the exclusive on the first 3 chapters.  I barely batted an...

On "Knowing"
Okay, so the movie looks scary in the trailer and I’m pretty sure it is a dumb blockbuster but let me tell you, I am going CRAZY from the not knowing.  That’s right.  The update is that my book is out on two fulls and one partial submission and I have heard nothing.  Granted, it’s been less than a week since one full went out, and not a full two weeks since the other full went...

Where we stand
Round one of querying (last spring-summer): 2 swift rejections 2 requests for the full manuscript, which eventually led to rejection We’ll say 2 for 4 — Spent about 9 months editing based on feedback — Round two of querying (started about two weeks ago): 2 swift rejections 1 request for the full manuscript 1 request for the partial manuscript 6 awaiting a response so...

Leprechaun on the field, in the booth with Red Sox... →
In the offseason I somehow managed to forget the other thing I love about watching Red Sox games.  Oh, Jerry Remy, why are you such a goofball and when did you swap clothes/beards with the leprechaun man in the booth?

Not doing well with watched pots
Times I’ve switched between my work gmail account and my personal gmail account in the past 2 hours: 109547856749 Yeah.  I am kind of closely watching the pot.  Like a little too closely.  Maybe I should try to see if I can ignore the pot for an hour and then do a quick check-up.  And reward myself with something.  Yeah… we’ll see.  I’ll try to make it till 12:30 without...

Sometimes you work hard with very little payoff
Like when only 3 people come to your Rock Band tournament! I have never blogged from a program and probably won’t ever again, but since I had my laptop here for scoring ease, I figure, why not.  Much to our dismay, we only had three people come to our gaming tournament today, so they are just hanging out playing games and, I’m sure, stoked about getting Best Buy gift cards worth $20....

Octopus floods Santa Monica Pier Aquarium --... →
Ummmm…scary?!  I always found the octopus one of the scarier creatures at the zoo.  So big and blobby!

Le sigh
It’s driving me crazy to sit on the sofa here, waiting and listening, while Colin chats politely with Comcast for the third or possibly fouth time of the evening, ensuring that we have the MLB Network to view tomorrow’s first Red Sox spring training game.  And by we, I mean, well, ME!  Clearly, only a true lady such as myself can get on the phone with Comcast and be a heinous bitch...

Joanna Pacitti got the boot from Idol and was replaced in the top 36. It’s sad to feel relief over a TV show but oh well, I’m relieved I won’t have to watch her flub lyrics any longer!

GAAAHHHH Norman Gentle
So, tonight was the American Idol where they revealed the top 36, which is another way to say that American Idol tortured me tonight and now has left me waiting till next week to have any sense of which of these talented people will actually make the top 12 (16?) whatever-sized group we will slowly whittle down over several months.  I’m already flipping out (overstatement, I have had two...

For the first time in years, it seems like there might be some closure in the Molly Bish and Holly Piirainen murders that were the backdrop of my childhood in Central Massachusetts.

Slumdog Millionaire
It feels completely inappropriate to say that I didn’t love it and yet, I didn’t love it.  I really liked and enjoyed watching it, but at the end of the day, there were parts that held me up and kept me from completely falling under its spell.  For the first hour, I was completely swept up in it — the cinematography, the child actors who did a tremendous job, the fast-paced...
